Here you can see the Healthy Lettuce Roots growing freely in the Aquaponics Troughs
Here are Portculapa Suculent Flowers growing in our Aquaponic Troughs. These are not edible but have great landscaping value and spread very quickly in the system.
Here you can see the Flowers growing and spreading very fast. These plants were started from two differant varieties, Pink, and red, and they multiplied very quickly in these optimum growing conditions.

Aquaponics and You

Aquaponics and You

Aquaponics is getting more and more popular as the Green Revolution swiftly sweeps across the globe. Aquaponics is the most sustainable food source in the world, and new ways of becoming completely self sustainable are continually being discovered.

What is Aquaponics?

Aquaponics is the combination of using Hydroponics and Aquaculture together.

Hydroponics is mainly the process of growing plants in water with out the traditional use of soil. One of the benefits of Hydroponics is that a greater number of crops can be planted in a smaller area, and soil based pest are eliminated.

Aquaculture is best described as a fish farm. Fish that are grown in a controlled environment using Aquaculture usually take up less space and water than traditional fish hatcheries or lakes. Another benefit of Aquaculture is that the rate and size of the fish along with what they are consuming is monitored for your desired fish product.

Perfect Combination

Combining Hydroponics and Aquaculture is the most efficient system for a complete symbiotic relationship that only benefits and betters the other system to create our Aquaponics System.

How this Works

The Aquacultured fish live in a controlled environment that feeds the Hydroponic plants which in turn filter and convert the fish waste into clean reusable water that is recirculated back in to the fish tank. This closed system not only optimizes the fish production, but it greatly enhances the growth time of the plants. In fact in many circumstances farmers have noticed a 50% to 70% increase in production of their vegetables. Growing times cut in half, sweeter more lush vegetables are grown with a fraction the cost and space that traditional farmers undertake.

Keeping it Green

Use of Solar panels and windmills are great ways to keep this system as self sustainable as possible. Electricity is needed to supply the fish with an air bubbler and a water pump is needed to circulate the water.

Some farmers have been utilizing a partially gravity-fed water circulation system to cut down on the amount of power consumed.

Fish food is the other outside element that needs to be added to the system. One Aquaponics farmer is growing his own Worm Farm, feeding them the solid compost from the fish and vegetable waste. In turn, the worms are also fed to the fish to offset the fish food cost, and sometimes eliminating it all together.

Marketability

The best result of this Aquaponics System is that the farmer is forced to be solely Organic. Any chemicals that may be placed on the plants will only harm the fish when the water is recirculated. This in turn also applies to any Hormones or steroids that a fish farmer may want to feed the fish, effecting the plants.

Aquaponics Systems can be made as portable as an indoor or outdoor landscape feature of decorative fish supplying water for an herb garden, or built as a commercial business not only supplying YOU and your family with unlimited fresh vegetables and home grown fish, but an Organic Supplier to the world of a sustainable food source at a nice market price.
