Aquaponic Farming

Aquaponic Farming is becoming a very popular way for families to grow their own food. Aquaponics by nature is completely organic and very efficient.  Back yard system can be constructed for a few hundred dollars or purchased as a unique set up from many Aquaponic Enthusiasts, like the designers at "Simply Aquaponics".

Growing your own food is very rewarding! I especially appreciate knowing where my produce came from, who touched it, what process it went through before it arrived in my kitchen, and if any, what pesticides were used.

Many times I have been at the farmers market (which I love) and find that some farmers call their produce "Organic" but have no proof or certification. I like to believe that they are truthful, but an acquaintance pointed out to me, the costco produce box under the farmers table where they were restocking their produce.

It turns out, many farmers were buying large quantities of produce from Costco and then reselling the veggies individually at the market calling them organically grown.

This upsets me! Buying organic is a conscious choice one makes in regard to their health and the environment.

Which brings me to Aquaponics! Aquaponics is a very easy, low input form of farming that anyone can do from their patio or back yard.  Many differant versions, sizes, and styles have been developed by Aquaponic Enthusiasts around the world, that it is so customizable to what ever situation you may have.

Having a small or mini Aquaponic system at home is a great instrument for teaching a young one the basics of farming and how things grow. Also taking care of small fish is usually a hit with the children.

Planting a seed and watching it grow can deeply instill appreciation in ones child and themselves regarding how incredible Agriculture and Aquaculture are and the relationship between them.

In the pictures above you can see home grown ORGANIC "Certified" Tomatoes from our Back yard system, and our Commercial Aquaponic Farm.
